{"id":122,"date":"2005-10-21T20:11:50","date_gmt":"2005-10-22T04:11:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.myadportfolio.com\/wordpress\/?p=122"},"modified":"2014-11-26T19:21:38","modified_gmt":"2014-11-27T03:21:38","slug":"creative-exec-resigns-over-misogynist-rem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myadportfolio.com\/wordpress\/creative-exec-resigns-over-misogynist-rem\/","title":{"rendered":"Creative Ad Exec Resigns over Misogynist Remarks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Neil French, the worldwide creative director of WPP Group has had to resign after causing a storm with his remarks about women ad creatives, according to an article in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/10\/21\/business\/21adco.html\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a meeting in Toronto on October 6th, he said women &#8220;don&#8217;t  make it to the top because they don&#8217;t deserve to.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nancy Vonk, Co-Chief Creative Director of Ogilvy in Toronto, writes about this over-the-top evening <a href=\"http:\/\/ihaveanidea.org\/articles\/archives\/268-Female-Like-Me.html\">here<\/a>.  Her agency is part of the WPP Group. She attended the event and has known Mr. French for several years. She is familiar with his attitudes toward women. She writes, &#8220;Before us was a big part of the explanation of why more women aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t succeeding in advertising,&#8221; as she believes  his ideas are representative of the way top executives in the advertising business think.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, according to Vonk, Mr. French said most women leave the business to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153go suckle something.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Was Mr. French trying to get fired? Was this a $100-a-seat frat party?<\/p>\n<p>From my experience in advertising, listening as a guy to other ad guys talk, I have to say she is right. Often these conversations are straight out of the men&#8217;s locker room.
