{"id":126,"date":"2005-11-10T12:29:04","date_gmt":"2005-11-10T20:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.myadportfolio.com\/wordpress\/?p=126"},"modified":"2006-09-16T10:26:29","modified_gmt":"2006-09-16T18:26:29","slug":"judith-millers-op-ed-in-the-ny-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myadportfolio.com\/wordpress\/judith-millers-op-ed-in-the-ny-times\/","title":{"rendered":"Judith Miller&#8217;s Op Ed in The  NY Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As  mentioned yesterday in this blog, Times reporter Judith Miller has been given space to explain herself  in the wake of  her long-negotiated resignation from the paper.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/11\/10\/opinion\/l10miller.html\">the Op Ed piece<\/a>,  she explains her decision to leave the Times after a distingushed 28-year career there.<\/p>\n<p>She states her 85 days in jail for contempt for refusing to reveal her sources is more than twice as long a any other US journalist.  <\/p>\n<p>She agreed to testify only on the Valerie Plame Wilson matter , and only after Scooter Libby released her from her pledge of confidentiality.  Once that was done, she did testify. <\/p>\n<p>Some on Times felt she never should have testified, even if it meant she would be obstructing a serious investigation and therefore, would have been charged with obstruction of justice, a serious crime in itself.<\/p>\n<p>The paper in response to the impasse between the court and Ms. Miller has advocated a Federal shield law to allow reporters to protect their sources without facing this level of legal coercion.<\/p>\n<p>She has website, further discussing these matters, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.JudithMiller.org\">JudithMiller.org<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As mentioned yesterday in this blog, Times reporter Judith Miller has been given space to explain herself in the wake of her long-negotiated resignation from the paper.
