Sohaib Athar tweeted, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event).\u00e2\u20ac\u009d  This would be 4 PM EST.<\/p>\n<p>Given that the on-site operation took about 40 minutes, and that includes recovering evidence about al-Qaeda operations from the scene, it was all over by 5 PM Washington time.  <\/p>\n<p>In fact. reports say bin Laden&#8217;s body was buried at sea at 2 AM local time, again 5 PM Washington time.<\/p>\n<p>So the President waited <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freerepublic.com\/focus\/f-news\/2713473\/posts\">six and a half hours<\/a> to make the short historic announcement.*<\/p>\n<p>Why? Was he waiting for the DNA confirmation?  (DNA testing seems to take weeks in ordinary circumstances, which these, of course, weren&#8217;t.)<\/p>\n<p>*There&#8217;s a ruckus now about Keith Urbahn, a former White House staffer in the Bush administration, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/05\/02\/business\/media\/02media.html?src=rec&#038;recp=3\">breaking the story an hour early<\/a> on Twitter, based on a TV producer&#8217;s unsubstantiated rumor.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had assumed that the Abbottabad operation took place on Sunday evening Eastern time.
