A landmark for almost fifty years, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/04\/28\/opinion\/28pepin.html?ex=1272340800&#038;en=d208610a8c5c39ab&#038;ei=5088&#038;partner=rssnyt&#038;emc=rss\">Howard Johnson&#8217;s<\/a> at  <a href=\"http:\/\/pqasb.pqarchiver.com\/nypost\/824078781.html?did=824078781&#038;FMT=ABS&#038;FMTS=FT&#038;date=Apr+19%2C+2005&#038;author=STEVE+CUOZZO&#038;desc=HOWARD%27S+END+-+FAMED+TIMES+SQUARE+HOJO%27S+CLOSING\">46th and Broadway<\/a>  (1551 Broadway) will be closing.<\/p>\n<p>While anyone who visited this eatery thinks of it as simple American food, a kind of home cooking away from home, the article is by renowned French chef Jacques Pepin, who worked for Howard Johnson&#8217;s early in his culinary career, refining HoJo&#8217;s recipes with the help of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodbyemag.com\/sep\/franey.htm\">Pierre Franey<\/a>, another famous French chef, known to many as the 60 Minute Gourmet of  the Times.<\/p>\n<p>The property will be used as retail space with &#8220;a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/04\/23\/nyregion\/23about.html\">great signage component<\/a>, &#8221; according the the real estate broker for the deal.  About a dozen (actually nine and <a href=\"http:\/\/hojoland.homestead.com\/\">counting<\/a>) of the familiar orange and aqua roadside restaurants remain, according to an earlier Times <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/04\/23\/nyregion\/23about.html\">article<\/a>.  The chain seemed everywhere along America&#8217;s highways, since <a href=\"http:\/\/hojoland.homestead.com\/stories2.html\">its founding in 1925<\/a>  in Quincy, Massachusetts as an ice cream shop.
